Chapter 13 - Chapter 11: Hierarchy (1)

Prowess became more important than mortality when years passed by as it developed a variable and a reason for people to create a system despite the freedom to give kindness and simple acts of good things in society.

A hierarchy structure that divided society apart. God-tier and high-tier being the highest, elite-tier and mid-tier being the average then low-tier and 'blanks' being the lowest. This structure only benefited gifted ones who are in high-tiers and elite-tiers while the lowest are left to fight amongst themselves.

......…

Rei and Sylvie were contemplating whether to defend themselves against the Japanese girl who looked mean and rude until she made an expression of confusion with her blue eyes that spoke out of curiosity and kindness.

"I'm sorry. Was I rude or too direct?" She asked which Sylvie answered for them since Rei was still starstruck with the turn of events, "Too direct? I mean you said 'Hey.' which made us feel like you're trying to assert dominance."

The Japanese girl immediately understood before apologising again as she bowled in a polite manner. "I was curious about the two of you. Since Kamigami Academy never accepted people this late after the application period." She explained before introducing herself, "I'm Hinata Hayasaka. Fifth year student." Hinata introduced before shaking Sylvie's hand while Rei introduced himself.

"Fifth year student… So you've been studying here for a long time?" Rei asked since Sylvie and him are new to the academy. "Yeah. I started as a freshman during the first year and have been going strong to stay despite how difficult it is." Hinata said before Sylvie asked in curiosity, "Difficult? Any tips for us since we're new around here especially in Ethereal and Kamigami Academy itself."

Hinata looked at them intrigued before responding back, "Really? That's even more rare for the headmaster to accept applicants outside of Ethereal." She said before continuing, "If you have time to go to the library. I recommend you to read 'History of Ethereal' volume 1 to 2 for basic understanding and general knowledge then for our curriculum as fifth year students would be volumes 1 to 3 mana theory, volume 4 to 5 prowess studies and lastly, volume 6 of whatever the course you're studying in."

Rei and Sylvie took the information into their heads, noting the things they should read after checking the schedule and going off for their next class afterwards if there is one for them today. They planned to go to the library if they have time but if not then their choice was to adjust in the academy's setting first while learning more from others.

"Thanks." Rei said for the two of them while Sylvie was typing what they needed on her phone after hearing Hinata's answer. "Anything else?" Sylvie asked as Hinata responded immediately, "For PE classes then you'll just need to know basic fundamentals of close quarters combat with whatever style you know." She said while Rei and Sylvie nodded their heads, "Thanks again, Hinata" Rei said before taking out his phone to finally check on his email if there are any updates for the schedule.

There wasn't anything other than the notification for being accepted although he saw that tomorrow would be the first day of his academic year. "Looks like I have nothing for today. How about you?" Rei looked to Sylvie who was just staring at her phone.

Hinata looked confused as Rei could only shrug as a response for her before trying to get Sylvie's attention. "Yo? You good?" He asked as Sylvie was brought back out of her trance before responding back. "Have at least a class or two. I'm just surprised that I have to go for mana theory and law studies later." She said while Hinata showed interest in the 'law' part. "Law? You applied for the legislative law course?" Hinata asked which Sylvie nodded her head in response.

"That's impressive. There's only ten to twelve people that I know of including you since our academy is mostly known for enforcers and sorcerer courses." Hinata complimented her while providing some additional information that Rei and Sylvie took note of.

They chatted for a while before the bell rang, signalling the end of lunch break as Sylvie said her goodbyes to Rei while Hinata helped the magenta girl to navigate the campus which left Rei alone by himself. "Looks like I'm gonna go to the library to get an early start then…" he thought to himself before heading off to wherever his legs could take him. "I'll probably get lost but I'll be used to it…"

......…

Sylvie expected to be behind upon reaching class but was surprised when the professor had given her some basic worksheet and notes for lessons that she needed to learn before catching up to the lesson which was only a recap from the previous year's students. "This is quite amazing and nice…" Sylvie thought to herself after being able to understand everything that she needed to know for the current lecture.

What she observed the most were how the students were diligent with their studies and didn't do anything to disturb class which Sylvie found to be nice since Sir Ellis Kadoorie High had not cared for anything except when teaching students that had talents or high-tier and elite-tier ones.

"I might get used to this although I wish I'm with Rei right now…" Sylvie sighed silently to herself as she enjoyed listening to the lecture which was becoming more understandable for her after reading and solving the things that the professor had given to her.

......…

Rei had gotten what he needed from the library after long hours of navigating through the large hallways and complex structure of the library upon finding it although he got the books that he needed for revision before asking Sylvie for help when she finished her class.

"How the hell did I end up here…" he thought to himself after a male with white hair and blue eyes challenged him all because of a simple miscommunication and misunderstanding after bumping onto each other which Rei never intended to do since he didn't saw the guy due to him having a deep thoughts to himself.

Rei noticed that there were a lot of students circling around him and the white haired male the moment they entered what seemed to be a fighting ring except for its large terrain.

"You dare to stand against me?" The white haired male said as they went into a fighting stance which Rei noticed to be some sort of martial arts like karate or judo. "Big mistake." His voice and looks appeared to be Japanese which made it even worse since Rei was half Japanese.

"Dude. Listen, I didn't mean to bump into you. I was not paying any attention so I apologise for what happened." Rei apologised although his apology didn't seem to be appreciated by the white haired male since they immediately tried to strike Rei who managed to catch their hand before retreating back.

"Coward. I'll put you in your place." They said, which made Rei sighed before going into his stance. "Shit. I gotta defend myself but I don't wanna make a bad impression of my so called first day in the academy even though I haven't even got to have my first class yet." He thought to himself before countering the kick by blocking then pulling their foot as he managed to punch them right in the guts with his left fist.

Rei noticed how most of the people went quiet when he hit the guy right on the guts but what brought him the most was one of their surprised statements.

"He managed to hit the strongest guy in our year?!"

He sweat dropped at the statement as Rei thought to himself before focusing on the fight as he didn't dare to activate his prowess to respect the unpowered hand to hand combat.

His only goal was to finish an honourable fight if possible unless the other party activated theirs…
