Chapter 4 - The Dawn of Light

HARU'S FUNERAL

The following day arrived under a sky heavy with gray clouds, as if the heavens themselves mourned the loss of a great soul.

Shukumei, dressed in solemn black, stood quietly as he prepared himself for the funeral of Haru Yaskue the Grandmaster of Light.

His expression was calm, yet his eyes carried the weight of grief.

He made his way through the village and soon met Hamari and young Inochi.

Without many words, the three walked together toward the ceremonial grounds, where the five great hierarchies and clans had already begun to gather.

One by one, the people assembled, forming a sea of black garments beneath the dim sky.

When all had arrived, silence fell.

At the center stood Haru's casket.

Shukumei stepped forward, and with him, the entire village followed. In perfect unity, they bowed their heads in respect.

Moments later, the sky opened.

Rain began to fall gently at first, then steadily, soaking the ground as tears mirrored the sorrow of the people.

The sound of quiet weeping filled the air. Warriors, elders, and children alike mourned the loss of the man who had protected them, guided them, and given them hope.

Inochi stood closest to the casket.

His small body trembled as he stared at his father's still form.

His mind struggled to comprehend what he was seeing. Haru, the strongest man he knew, lay motionless—silent.

"Why isn't he waking up?" Inochi whispered, his voice breaking.

Confusion and fear filled his eyes.

To him, death was not yet something he understood.

Shukumei's Words

Shukumei slowly knelt beside Inochi, placing a gentle hand on his shoulder.

"Your father…" he began softly, "has gone to a place beyond the clouds."

"Inochi looked up at him, tears streaming down his face.

"A place where the rain ends… and the sunlight always follows. A peaceful realm we call heaven."

Inochi hesitated before asking, "Does everyone who dies go there?"

Shukumei paused, choosing his words carefully.

"In this world, we shinobi live to protect what we hold dear.

But our lives are also shaped by the choices we make."

He looked toward Haru's casket.

"Sometimes, we make mistakes.

Sometimes, we fall into darkness.

And often… we repeat those mistakes until we finally understand them."

His voice grew deeper with meaning.

"That is the nature of being human.

We are made of both light and darkness.

And true peace comes from understanding both."

Shukumei's gaze softened as he returned his attention to Inochi.

"Your father understood that better than anyone. He carried both light and shadow… and he chose to protect others with that balance."

BONDS

Shukumei lowered himself to one knee so he could look Inochi directly in the eyes.

"In life, we form bonds—with family, with friends, and with those who fight beside us. These bonds shape who we are."

He placed his hand over Inochi's chest.

"But true bonds are not defined by blood alone."

They are built through understanding… through shared pain, and through overcoming suffering together."

Inochi listened closely, his tears slowly beginning to calm.

"Suffering is something every shinobi must face," Shukumei continued. "And while it hurts… it teaches us. Without experiencing pain, we would never truly understand peace."

A faint smile appeared on his face.

"You, Inochi… are like the sun. You carry a light that cannot be extinguished."

He gently rested his hand on Inochi's head.

"And one day, someone will stand behind you like a shadow protecting you, just as you will protect others."

Inochi wiped his tears with trembling hands.

"I… I promise," he said softly. "I'll make him proud."

He stepped forward and embraced Shukumei tightly.

PEACE AND HAPPINESS

Shukumei held Inochi's small hand firmly, gazing into his eyes and within them, he saw something familiar.

Haru.

Suddenly, the rain began to fade.

The clouds slowly parted, allowing rays of sunlight to break through the sky. Warm light spread across the village, replacing the cold sorrow that had lingered just moments before.

Inochi looked up, his face lighting up with a pure, innocent smile.

Shukumei and Hamari followed his gaze.

Through his unique visual ability, Shukumei saw something no one else could.

Haru's spirit.

It hovered above them, radiant and whole, looking down upon the village he had protected.

For a brief moment, their eyes met.

Haru smiled.

Then, in an instant, his spirit ascended into the sky, soaring toward the sun at blinding speed until it vanished into the light.

Tears rolled down Shukumei's face but this time, he smiled.

Are you watching over us?

he wondered silently.

Beside him, Hamari reached out and gently took his hand.

Their eyes met, and without speaking, she reassured him that everything would be okay.

The atmosphere began to shift.

The grief that once filled the air slowly transformed into warmth.

Families embraced one another. Laughter returned. Children ran freely across the open space, their joy echoing through the village.

Among them, Inochi laughed and played, his spirit no longer weighed down by confusion.

The sakura trees stood tall, their pink petals drifting softly in the breeze.

For the first time since Haru's passing…

Peace could be felt again.

HARU'S DREAM

Shukumei stood quietly, observing the village.

"So… this was your dream," he murmured. "A world where people can smile again."

He closed his eyes briefly.

"It hurts that you're not here to see it… but your will lives on."

Opening his eyes, he smiled faintly.

"You truly were a great shinobi."

He turned toward Inochi.

"It's time to head back."

Inoci looked up, slightly disappointed.

"But I just started playing…"

Shukumei chuckled.

"I'll cook your favorite meal."

Inochi's expression instantly changed.

"Really? Can you make sate and rice balls?"

Shukumei grinned.

"Sate, rice balls… and egg rolls."

Inochi ran toward him, smiling brightly.

As he approached, Shukumei once again sensed the light within him the very light Haru had entrusted to his son.

And for just a moment, he thought he saw Haru's presence following behind him.

Opening his arms, Shukumei caught Inochi in a warm embrace.

"I want to become Grandmaster,"

Inochi said. "Just like my father."

Shukumei smiled and placed a hand on his head.

"And you will. I'll train you… and guide you every step of the way."

His voice grew firm.

"You will become the Grandmaster of Light."

Inochi nodded confidently.

From a distance, Hamari approached.

Shukumei opened his arms, and she stepped into them.

Their eyes met, and slowly, they leaned closer sharing their first kiss.

Nearby, Inochi smiled quietly, beginning to understand what love truly meant.

Hand in hand, they began their journey home.

YAMATA OROCHI

One week later, Shukumei encountered an ally from the Sakura Village Yamata Orochi.

With white skin, a serpent-like face, and a long ponytail, Yamata stood calmly in his white and blue kimono.

"The assembly will take place in two weeks," Yamata said. "The hierarchies will vote for the next Grandmaster of Light."

He studied Shukumei carefully.

"Do you have any candidates in mind?"

Shukumei shook his head.

"Not yet."

After a brief pause, he spoke again.

"Before Haru died, he entrusted me with something."

He explained everything the journey to the Land of Shadows, the transfer of light into Inochi, and Haru's meeting with Itami Hinotori.

"There are survivors," Shukumei said.

Yamata's eyes widened.

"That shouldn't be possible…"

"It is," Shukumei replied calmly.

"And one of them…

Kurai Hinotori…

holds a power destined to maintain balance in this world."

Yamata crossed his arms.

"What will you do?"

Shukumei answered without hesitation.

"I will follow Haru's will.

A world of peace… balance… and unity."

Yamata smirked.

"Then you should be the next Grandmaster."

Shukumei chuckled.

"I was thinking the same about you."

Yamata laughed.

"Then I'll support you."

NEW FUTURE

"How is Inochi?" Yamata asked.

"He's doing well," Shukumei replied. "Hamari is taking care of him."

Yamata smirked slightly.

"And you? Planning to marry her?"

Shukumei smiled.

"After the Grandmaster is chosen."

They then spoke of Tosuke.

"He's adapting well," Yamata said. "But controlling his aura is difficult. His dragon and human blood are in conflict."

"Even so," he added, "at nine years old, he's already stronger than elite shinobi."

Shukumei nodded.

"The future is promising."

He looked ahead, his eyes filled with determination.

"We will expand the village.

Build homes, training halls, and a library.

The next generation must understand our history and be ready to protect it."

Yamata smiled.

"I'll become a teacher."

They both laughed.

Then, with mutual respect, they bowed to one another.

And as they parted ways, each walked forward with purpose toward a future illuminated by Haru's enduring light.
