Chapter 5 - The Will Of Light

3 Years had passed since the death of Haru Yaskue, yet his presence still lingered within the Land of Light.

Life in the village slowly began to move forward, though the memory of their fallen Grandmaster remained deeply rooted in the hearts of its people.

Shukumei had taken on a new responsibility.

He now stood not only as a warrior—but as a mentor.

Under the soft glow of the morning sun, he trained Inochi in the open dojo.

The young boy, now eleven years old, stood with determination in his eyes.

His afro, reminiscent of his father's, swayed slightly as he moved.

He wore a white kimono layered beneath a tan cloak, the back marked with a cherry blossom emblem—the symbol of the Land of Light.

A band tied around his hair kept it in place as he focused on his stance.

"Again," Shukumei instructed calmly.

Inochi moved swiftly, executing precise Wing Chun strikes, blending them with Hotoke-class shuriken techniques.

His movements were sharp, controlled, and unusually refined for someone his age.

Shukumei watched closely.

He's improving faster than I expected…

Inochi was a natural prodigy.

By the age of eleven , he had already begun mastering 3 style in nature wind, fire and earth-style techniques—something even seasoned shinobi struggled to achieve.

Within the academy, he had risen from the rookie ranks to the mid-tier, earning the fourth-highest academic standing in his class.

But his true strength lay elsewhere.

With each passing day, he grew closer to mastering the Yaskue swordsmanship style his father's legacy.

And Shukumei was determined to guide him every step of the way.

"Shukumei, You Have Been Summoned!"

The peaceful training session was interrupted by a sudden voice.

"Shukumei!"

Both turned.

KENJI MIDORI

Standing at the entrance of the dojo was Kenji Midori.

His presence was striking white hair, piercing grey eyes, and a composed demeanor.

He wore a blue Tang suit jacket reinforced with oni-like armor on the shoulders, paired with black pants secured by a dark belt.

A respected shinobi within the village.

Kenji stepped forward.

"You've been summoned," he said firmly. "By the Five."

Shukumei's expression shifted slightly.

"The Five…?"

Kenji nodded.

"It's urgent."

Shukumei exhaled slowly, then turned to Inochi.

"Continue your training. I'll return soon."

Inochi nodded.

"Yes, Master."

Without another word, Shukumei walked alongside Kenji toward the central office of the village.

CHOSEN BY THE HIERARCHY

Upon arriving, the two stood before a large wooden door.

Knock. Knock.

The door opened.

Koji stood before them a high-ranking member of the Five.

He wore glasses and a sleek black Tang outfit, his dark hair neatly styled.

"Enter."

Shukumei and Kenji stepped inside.

At the center of the room stood the Five leaders of the Sakura Village figures of immense authority and influence.

Shukumei bowed deeply.

The leaders exchanged glances before one of them stepped forward.

"We have reached a decision," Koji said.

" brief silence filled the room.

"You have been chosen… as the Second Grandmaster of Light."

Shukumei froze.

"…Me?"

He lifted his head, disbelief written across his face.

"With all due respect," he said carefully, "are you certain? There are others more suited for this role Yamata Orochi, Kenji Midori…"

Before he could continue, another voice spoke.

Karin.

Her cherry blossom-pink hair framed her face, and her red eyes held a calm intensity. She wore a pristine white kimono as she stepped forward.

"Yamata and Kenji are exceptional," she acknowledged. "Their strength and skill are undeniable."

She paused.

"But this decision was not based on strength alone."

Her gaze met Shukumei's.

"No one can replace Haru. Not in power… nor in wisdom."

HARU'S FINAL WISH

Shukumei's voice softened.

"Then… why me?"

Koji stepped forward once more.

"Because Haru chose you."

The words struck like thunder.

"Before his passing," Koji continued, "Haru entrusted us with his final wish that you would succeed him as the next Grandmaster of Light."

Shukumei's eyes widened.

Memories flooded his mind.

Haru's voice…

His final moments…

The unspoken weight of his will.

Tears began to form.

"I thought… his request was only about protecting Inochi…"

His voice broke.

"…but it was more than that."

Silence filled the room.

The Five looked upon him with trust.

"We believe in you," Karin said gently. "Lead this village. Protect it. Preserve the peace Haru fought for."

Shukumei clenched his fists.

Then slowly…

He bowed.

"I accept."

His voice was steady.

"I swear… I will dedicate my life to protecting this village and upholding the will of light."

A smile spread across the faces of the Five.

"Then rise, Shukumei," Koji said. "Grandmaster of Light."

A NEW BEGINNING

Plans were set into motion immediately.

"A formal ceremony will be held in one month," Karin explained. "The village will be informed within the week."

"A new robe will be crafted for you," another added.

Shukumei bowed once more.

"Thank you… for your trust."

With that, he turned and left the chamber his life forever changed.

A JOYFUL RETURN

As the sun began to set, Shukumei returned home.

The door creaked open.

Before he could step inside

"Master Shukumei!"

Inochi came running, leaping into his arms.

Shukumei caught him effortlessly.

"I'm home."

Hamari appeared moments later, her gentle smile lighting up the room.

"You're back," she said softly.

Shukumei smiled.

"I have news."

Her expression turned curious.

"What is it?"

He took a breath.

"I've been chosen… as the Second Grandmaster of Light."

For a moment there was Silence.

Then Hamari's face lit up with pure joy.

She rushed forward, wrapping her arms around him.

"That's amazing!"

Inochi looked up, eyes shining.

"You did it!"

Shukumei laughed softly, holding them both.

PROPOSAL

Later that evening, as the moment settled into quiet warmth, Shukumei turned to Hamari.

There was something deeper in his eyes now.

"Hamari…"

She looked at him.

"I don't just want to protect this village…"

He stepped closer.

"I want to build a life with you."

Her breath caught.

"Will you marry me?"

Time seemed to stop.

Tears filled her eyes instantly, falling like rain.

"Shukumei…"

She nodded.

"Yes."

She embraced him tightly, her answer filled with emotion.

Inochi smiled brightly nearby.

A new family had been born.

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT

Within a week, posters spread across the village.

"The Ceremony for the Second Grandmaster of Light will be held next month."

Excitement filled the streets.

Speculation grew.

Many believed Kenji Midori would be chosen.

Few suspected the truth.

NEW BONDS FORM

That evening, Yamata Orochi arrived with his family.

The table was filled with food, prepared by Hamari.

As they sat together, Yamata spoke.

"How is Inochi progressing?"

Inochi smiled proudly.

"I'm mid-class now!"

Yamata nodded.

"Good. Tosuke has reached the top of his class."

Beside him sat Tosuke a young boy with a dragon-like face, dark scales, and a dusky orange-brown complexion.

He wore a purple and navy kimono, his presence both intimidating and calm.

The two boys locked eyes.

And instantly a connection formed.

"I want to be Grandmaster one day," Inochi said confidently.

Tosuke smirked.

"Then I'll protect you."

Inochi tilted his head.

"Protect me?"

"Like a shadow," Tosuke said.

Inochi grinned.

"Then I'll be the light."

A rivalry was born.

LESSON FROM SHUKUMEI

As the meal continued, Inochi turned to Shukumei.

"What's it like… being Grandmaster?"

Shukumei smiled.

"It's not about being the strongest."

The table grew quiet.

"It's about protecting everyone… like they're your family."

He looked around.

"This village… is my home. And everyone in it… is worth protecting."

Inochi nodded, absorbing every word.

"I understand."

He bowed.

"I'll remember that."

Tosuke leaned forward.

"I want to be like you," he said. "Strong enough to protect others."

Shukumei smiled.

"And you will be."

Laughter filled the room once more.

For the first time in a long time everything felt whole.

THE WILL OF LIGHT

As the night went on, Shukumei looked around the table.

At Hamari.

At Inochi.

At their friends.

At their future.

And in that moment, he understood something clearly.

Haru's will had not disappeared.

It had evolved.

Into bonds.

Into love.

Into peace.

And into the next generation… who would carry the light forward.
