Chapter 17 - Going Forward

When I returned to my chambers, I was so exhausted that I thought I would fall right asleep. But the moment my eyes closed, my past memories began to collide with my new ones, and worse, Jaxon's words began to haunt me. Even when I finally fell asleep, he haunted my dreams.

In the dream, he stood before me as Alpha again, his eyes burning with cold triumph as the pack bowed behind him. I tried to move, to fight, but my body would not obey.

I woke several times in the darkness, my heart racing. By the time dawn arrived, I was even more exhausted than I'd been when I'd gone to bed.

Still, an Alpha did not have the luxury of weakness. I dressed quickly and summoned Nala and Tala. When they finally arrived with Kieran standing between them, I had already had breakfast and found my way to my study.

"My Alpha, this guard claims you marked him last night and that he has sworn a blood oath to you," Tala reported, nudging Kieran forward.
