"But then how about this," Jace continued, a little more confidently. "I would like some time with Ann, if that is okay with you. I never really got a chance to speak with her the last time because we were both in a rush to."
"Ann is gone," Van cut her off. "She left yesterday."
"You sent her away?"
"Whenever she gets news that I will be coming here, she takes a flight. She used to make my food until you came. There is no need for her to be here anymore. I can travel anywhere I want with you now."
Jade's shoulders fell. Sadly, she never got the chance to finish that conversation with Ann, to know why she apologized and how she was connected to all of this. But that would not happen now because Van sent her away. Jade could not believe anything less. He was trying to hide the truth from her, so much so that Ann could barely talk when she saw her, so much so that he could not finish his statement at the ice rink.
