'It probably for the best' I thought
The results for the test were sent to our phones I checked both our phones, because Kuro was still asleep. I beat Miyuki by exactly 3 points on the written exam. Kuro on the other hand made it into course one, but only barely. She missed every question on the written exam doing even worse than she expected. Truly shows how much practical is weighed versus theoretical skill.
Well I guess I should come up with a speech. Since Miyuki isn't going to be giving one this time. Eh it's better for them if they don't stand out yet anyway.
*sigh*
'I don't know how to write speeches eh I'll just wing it not like I care to much. Although I could use this chance to improve my image in people's eyes.' I though
Kuro woke up shortly later. She started crying when she saw her scores
"I just wanted to prove I'm able to stand by you." She said tears poured form her eyes.
I was shocked and angered she thought that way.
"Who told you that you have to be smart to stand by me Kuro?" I asked my voice low and cold.
Kuro looked me and started naming people as I wrote each name down. I didn't remember what they looked like or who they really were after all I never bothered with those hypocrites. I then sent the list to mother she's fond of Kuro unlike the other guardians of family members, excluding Tatsuya of course.
I then looked at Kuro and gave her a hug.
"Its okay no one but me has the right to dictate if you can stand beside me or not. Not even mother. Our engagement and relationship may have been forced, but I can't see myself with anyone else." I said
She cried… loudly but eventually calmed down. I then went to grab some fried chicken takeout for lunch as it was too late for breakfast. Our first day is in a week and our uniforms should be here the day after tomorrow.
Nothing much happend other than Kuro opening up more to me. It shocked me how much she didn't tell me, considering how open I thought she was towards me. Our uniforms also arrived and we had to send hers back to get one a bigger one tailored for her. I was also contacted by the school that they were aware of my and Kuro's military service and would only be informing the student council. Mother also called to check on our progress. We both did as well as she expected. I don't know if I should be flattered she thinks so highly of me, or sorry for how stupid she thinks Kuro is. Well at least she's the lovable kind of stupid. Rather than the stubborn kind who can't admit when they're wrong.
Till finally the first day of school came.
We arrived early only to hear Miyuki complaining to Tatsuya about how he should've been made a course 2 student.
'Annoying scores were posted a week ago and she's still complaining unbelievable' I thought
I think Kuro shared the same sentiment as she also looked annoyed at Miyuki but we did not engage or associate. I wandered off while Kuro went to grab a seat in the auditorium for the matriculation ceremony. I hope my speech goes over well I thought only to have my thoughts interrupted by someone.
"Excuse are you a new student? Are you lost?" I looked down and saw the student council president Mayumi Saegusa.
I'm not suprised she didn't know me mother despises the saegusa family specifically this girls father. As such I've had little to no contact with her family. I met her father once when mother took me to a ten master clans meeting, but that was it. He failed to protect her when they were engaged. Leading to her being kidnapped, experimented on, raped, and left being unable to have children of her own. Afterwards their engagement was dissolved and she never forgave them. Despite knowing all this I had to act like I knew nothing.
"Ah, yes I would like to know which way to the auditorium and you are?" I lied
"Ah! How, rude of me I'm the student council president and third year student Mayumi Saegusa." She said cheerfully.
I braced myself mentally for the look of fear or disgust form introducing myself.
"A pleasure my name is Ryu Yotsuba." I Said smiling politely
Her eyes widened for second in suprise, but the look of fear and disgust did not come. She looked me up and down. I guess I should've expected this. she was shown to be tolerant and advocated for equality amongst magicians afterall.
"Your the Dragon of Destruction?" She asked
Her question made me spit in suprise
"That's what you ask me!?" I said suprised
She just flashed me a cheeky smile. I forgot she also likes to tease people.
"To answer question yes although I think my nickname is stupid." I said
She just smirked
"Can just guide me to the auditorium? Also why are you not… scared of me?" I asked
"Should I be?" She asked as she began walking in towards a building. I could only assume it was the auditorium.
"Well no, but that usually doesn't stop people from feeling that way when they here someone is a Yotsuba." I said
"Then it's fine. You seem different and I try not to judge a book by its cover." She said without looking back.
"You should know my mother hates your family." I said without any real emotion behind the statement.
"Your mother?" She asked
"Well adopted mother." I didn't elaborate more but she seems to understand. That even though I was not a Yotsuba by blood I was still a member and raised by the clan head. She was aware Maya Yotsuba hated her father, but not why.
"Well your not her. So you have your speech ready?" She asked
"Yeah." I said
"Good I wish you luck" she said as she ran off somewhere eh wasn't my business.
The auditorium was huge. It looked huge in the anime, but it was even more so in person. Pres. was giving a speech to the incoming school year currently I was off to the side waiting to be called up to give my speech.
'Huh Kuro's up near Tatsuya and Miyuki along with Erika Chiba and … crap what was the girl with glasses named' I thought after all I genuinely couldn't remember it though I did see Erika touch Kuro ears. Kuro must like her other wise she wouldn't have let her. I'm glad I gave her a warning to not use her Intrisic magic on campus as it is rated as Class A Lethal Anti-Heavy Armor Magic. For the record my intrinsic varies. I made lower power versions of my spells, well spell I could use non lethally. The lethal versions however are easily Class A or higher. With one spell I developed that not even Acnologia had into a strategic class spell. At least in theory haven't had a chance to test it yet after all. However that's not possible with Kuro's magic as at it is blades of plasma and control over plasma.
'Oh there calling me'
"We would now like to call to the stage our first year representative to the stage please welcome Ryu Yotsuba." Said Mayumi
I walked up to the podium. Literally only Kuro clapped, and she got weird looks for it.
"Wow tough crowd." I said my statement met with silence
"Anyway, I'm not going to lie and have some fake flowery speech. I can tell the vast majority of you either hate of fear me, because I'm from the Yotsuba clan. I'm not gonna tell you the Yotsuba clan isn't something to be feared. I'm well aware of how infamous my clan is. However why are you judging me by my family? you don't even know me. This is the same as your whole, and forgive me president for saying this, weed and blooms thing." I said
People started murmuring as I said that.
"I've heard about it course 1 students unilaterally deciding that course 2 students are worthless due to lack of practical skills. When so much more matters in a real fight. Trust me I've fought and killed for this country."
They started muttering more amongst themselves. Though it seemed the idea I've killed off put some of them.
"I guess all I'm trying to say is try to get to know me and your fellow students for who we are. Don't judge me just because I'm from the Yotsuba clan, and don't judge course 2 students because they lack skills the test puts too much importance on. I hope we all can get along and strive to achieve great things in the various fields of magical careers." I said finishing my speech
It started slowly, but eventually everyone started clapping one by one. I saw Kuro look smug and say something that made the Miyuki, Erika, and the glasses girl blush. I'm going to have a misunderstanding to correct later.
Authors note: This chapter was alittle longer than normal, but here we are chapter 10 hell yeah. We've reached episode one stuff. Kuro is dumb but lovable and now because of that she and Ryu are gonna end up interacting with Tatsuya and Miyuki. They will pretend not to know each other. So keep that in mind when they interact as if they've never met. Leonhardt is not gonna give single fuck about Ryu being Yotsuba if you read the novel you know why
