The rest of the ceremony was boring, but I had to stay for the end.
'Why did have to go be the top scorer. Hmm, now that I think about my attitude has been noticeably more lazy lately. Is it because there aren't many people I can fight on equal terms? It probably isn't just that, but more just a lack of challenge in general.' I thought
The ceremony ended without much fuss. I was overhear some conversation among the other new students. It seem's they're going to give me the benefit of the doubt.
'Good, if they immediately warmed up to me I'd doubt their sanity and call them naive.' I thought
I was walking down the hall looking for Kuro. I turned the corner and saw her down the hall she was with Tatsuya, Miyuki, Erika, and the glasses girl who's name I still couldn't remember. Was she really that forgettable a charcter? I began walking towards them. On the way I noticed people were looking at me warily, an improvment.
"Kuro." I called out a smile on my face.
"Ah? Ryu!" Kuro turned around at the sound of my voice. She then blitz me at high speed and hugged me. If it was some one less sturdy she might of snapped their spine. Fortunately or unfortunately for me she only hugs me with this much enthusiasm.
I sighed
"Kuro what did I tell you about excessive PDA at school?" I asked her to confirm
She looked at me I just asked her solve a quantum physics equation without seeing the equation.
I sighed again
"I said to not do so." I said
She Immediate looked sad. I'm glad she remembers stuff like pretend we don't know Tatsuya and Miyuki, but I wish she would remember other stuff too.
"Well introduce me to your new friends. I recognize one of them, but we haven't been formally introduced." I said
Kuro immediately cheered up at that.
'Silly big dog.' I thought with a wry smile.
Kuro ran back to towards the main cast, dragging me along.
"Hey Erika, Mizuki, Tatsuya, Miyuki! I want you guys to meet my fiancé."
'Ah her name was Mizuki thanks Kuro' I thought.
I subtly signaled Tatsuya to let him know we would continue to pretend to not know each other unless something comes up.
He nodded in recognition, but to everyone else it looked like a polite greeting.
"Hello, as you all know I'm Ryu Yotsuba. As Kuro mentioned I am indeed her fiancé. A pleasure to meet you all." I said giving a polite smile while I guaged their reactions
Mizuki stared at me in fear as if she saw something scary. Oh right she can see some sort of aura thing because of her special eyes. I bet 100 yen that my aura looks like a dragon or something.
Erika eyed me warily. That was to be expected from someone of the ten master clans. They have even more of a reason to be wary of our clan as we are the strongest as well as very secretive.
Miyuki greeted me politely like the little princess she was. Tatsuya just nodded as mentioned earlier.
"You don't seem to be like the rumors." Said Tatsuya before the silence could turn awkward.
"What rumors?" I asked as I was genuinely unaware.
"Ryu Yotsuba. The Yotsuba's Raging Dragon also known as the Spell Eater deployed at the age of 12 during the battle of Okinawa. Described by his fellow soldiers as a walking invincible artillery emplacement." Said Tatsuya.
It was then I realized he was being petty, but I didn't call him out on it.
I notice that Erika's wariness increased another degree. Mizuki was stunned in fear.
"No it's true, although exaggerated slightly I was in fact at the battle of Okinawa 3 years ago. I was nearby on vacation and as a member of one of the ten master clans I had to lend a hand. I'm not invincible though I'm just very hard to kill. I don't see anything wrong with killing the enemies of the country. Besides I wasn't the only one there. Kuro was there fighting right beside me." I said politely
Erika and Mizuki were suprised by that information. Miyuki did a good job pretending.
"Actually, how did you know about that? Only the student council was supposed to be informed about that. Not that the information was hidden. Just suprised someone would go out of their way to read that stuff." I asked being slightly petty back.
"I was researching some of the spells I heard described from a soldier that was their." Said Tatsuya. I knew that was bullshit. but I obviously couldn't call him on it because mother said so.
"Anyway. I know I've killed people. I know my clans reputation is awful. Like I said in my speech judge me by my actions not by past and family." I said.
Mizuki looked less scared, but was still spooked by what only she could see.
Erika just sighed
"Well I guess I'd be a hypocrite to not even give you a chance Yotsuba. I'm Erika Chiba you can just call me Erika." Said Erika she held out her hand
"Please just call me by my name. I admittedly never felt right being called by my family name." I said knowing full well she said my family name to annoy me. Grabbed her hand and shook it
"Okay Ryu. Wow your much sturdier than you look!" She said. It made sense since despite the Chiba Family being a member of the 10 master clans. They focused on their swordsmanship which complements their speed and weight magic.
"And you must train a lot as well. Also despite how I look that hug from Kuro earlier would've snapped the spine of someone less sturdy." I said.
They looked at me like I was crazy for that statement.
"Kuro is much stronger than me physically." I said
They looked at her and she just nodded in confirmation with her silly smile on her face.
"So I don't want to sound rude and I'm pretty sure literally everyone has been thinking this. why does Kuro have dog ears and a tail?" She asked a subtle as a bull in a china shop
I was suprised Kuro didn't explain. She knew the excuse we came up with for that.
"It's a side effect of her unique intrinsic magic. You hopefully won't have to see her use it. it's basically blades made of plasma generated from psions. Not exactly useable in a friendly spar." I said
"Huh, but what does claws made of plasma have to do with dog ears and a tail?" Asked Erika.
"Unique intrinsic magic is extremely powerful however they usually have some form of drawback. In kuro's case it manifested in animal instincts and those physical traits. Though I'm not fully sure why either. My drawback is less obvious and could even be considered a perk." I said
Tatsuya's gaze sharpened at that. He was unaware of me having a drawback. Made sense I never even told mother as I didn't deem it too important.
"Huh so you don't know either. Wait you said you have a unique intrinsic magic too." Said Erika
"Yeah, although mine is harder to explain on how it works. The drawback of mine is external magic has a harder time effecting me." Explained
"Huh what do you mean by that?" Mizuki was the one who asked that suprisingly.
"In simpler terms I'm magic resistant any magic that attempts to affect me from an external sources will be weakened or in some case negated although the later case is rarer." I said
"That doesn't sound like a drawback" said Miyuki
"No it is." Said Tatsuya
Everyone looked at him for him to explain.
"While he may be magic resistant to external magic he can't truly benefit from any outside support magic of any kind as its effects will either be heavily weakened or outright negated. Even rare healing type magic would probably be resisted as well am I right?" Said Tatsuya
"You are absolutely correct against offensive magic it's a blessing, but for support magic it's a curse." I said sighing
A bell rang.
"Well I guess we should get to our classes" I said
"Don't worry Tastsuya we will watch out for Miyuki for you." Said Kuro
'Good job Kuro.' I thought
Tatsuya knew we wouldn't do anything afterall we said we supported Miyuki for clan head awhile ago. Much to their chagrin.
We didn't talk as we made our way to class 1-A. I'm pretty sure Maya bribed the school for Kuro to be in it. Otherwise she'd be in the lowest ranked class in course one. I plan to put that little shit morisaki jun and his followers In their place faster than in canon he got better but he's such a minor character I don't care.
'What the fuck! How did I remember Morisaki Shun and not Mizuki who's part of the main cast.?' I thought confused.
Kuro just smiled while I thought about putting the Miyuki simp in his place. To be fair I'm doing him a favor.
-pov- Erika
"Aw crap I forgot to ask why he's called Spell Eater." Said Erika remembering something Tatsuya mentioned when she had her guard up.
Authors note: Tatsuya was being petty because he knew Ryu couldn't call him out without outing him and making Maya upset. If you think he wouldn't do this just realize him being here interferes slightly with Miyuki. Ryu doesn't hate or truly dislike his clans reputation he understands it's completely warranted. He just wants friends and allies who aren't family.
