Chapter 13: Fever Dreams and Secret Confessions

(Empty desk. Kenta isn't there.)
Takahashi Kenji: (staring) "Kenta's never absent. Never."
Sato Haruki: "Maybe he's sick?"
Takahashi Kenji: "Kenta Morik doesn't get sick. He's a machine."
(His phone buzzes. Group chat.)
Sui: "Takahashi! Is Kenta-kun in class?!"
Yui: "He's not answering his phone!"
Sui: "We're going to his hostel!"
Yui: "Something's wrong!"
Takahashi Kenji: "GO GO GO! Report back! đ"

[Scene: Kenta's Hostel Room - Morning]
(Sui and Yui burst through the door. They have a spare key from the birthday week.)
Sui: "KENTA-KUN!"
Yui: "WE'RE COMING IN!"
(They find him in bed. Curled up. Pale. Sweating. Shivering.)
Kenta: (weakly) "Don't... come close... sick..."
Sui: (rushing to his side) "KENTA-KUN!"
Yui: (touching his forehead) "He's burning up!"
Sui: "We need to take care of him!"
Kenta: (eyes barely open) "Go away... don't want you to... get sick..."
Yui: (firmly) "Not happening. We're staying."
Sui: (already wetting a towel) "Forehead compress! Now!"

[Scene: Kenta's Room - Day Caretaking]
(The girls take over. Sui changes cold compresses. Yui makes soup from his tiny kitchen.)
Sui: (whispering) "He looks so small like this."
Yui: (also whispering) "He's always so strong. But now..."
Sui: "We need to take care of him."
Kenta: (delirious mumbling) "Integrate... from zero to infinity... gamma function..."
Sui: (giggling) "He's doing math even when sick."
Yui: (smiling) "That's our Kenta-kun."
(She feeds him soup. He barely registers it.)
Sui: (sitting beside him) "Kenta-kun... we're here. We're not leaving."
Kenta: (unconscious) "...warm..."
Yui: (holding his hand) "Yeah. We're warm."

[Scene: Evening - Fever Peaks]
(Kenta's fever spikes. He thrashes slightly, mumbling.)
Sui: (panicking) "Should we call a doctor?!"
Yui: (checking his forehead) "It's coming down slowly. Just needs rest."
Kenta: (suddenly) "Sui... Yui..."
Sui & Yui: (leaning in) "We're here!"
Kenta: (eyes still closed) "Don't... leave..."
Sui: (tearing up) "We won't. We promise."
Yui: (also tearing up) "Never."
Kenta: (mumbling) "Always... solving problems... but you two... not problems... you're..."
(He trails off. Asleep again.)
Sui: (looking at Yui) "Did he just...?"
Yui: (nodding) "He was going to say something."
Sui: (quietly) "What do you think it was?"
Yui: (softly) "Maybe... we'll find out someday."

[Scene: Late Night - Both Girls Awake]
(Kenta is sleeping peacefully now. Fever broken. Sui and Yui sit on either side of his bed, watching him.)
Sui: (whispering) "Yui... do you think he knows?"
Yui: (whispering back) "Knows what?"
Sui: "How we feel. About him."
Yui: (pause) "I don't think so. He's Kenta-kun. He doesn't notice things like that."
Sui: "Should we tell him?"
Yui: "When he's awake? And healthy?"
Sui: (nervous) "I don't know if I can. Looking at his face. Those eyes. I'd freeze."
Yui: (smiling sadly) "Same."
(They sit in silence. Kenta murmurs in his sleep.)
Sui: (taking a deep breath) "What if... we tell him now?"
Yui: (confused) "Now? He's asleep!"
Sui: "That's the point. He can't react. He can't reject us. We just... say it. Get it out."
Yui: (thinking) "You mean... a secret confession?"
Sui: (nodding) "He won't remember. But we will. We'll know we said it."
Yui: (long pause) "...Okay. You first."
Sui: (face red) "ME?!"
Yui: "You suggested it!"
Sui: (taking shaky breaths) "Okay. Okay. I can do this."
(She leans close to Kenta's ear.)
Sui: (whispering, voice trembling) "Kenta-kun... I love you. I've loved you since we were kids. When you held my hand on the slide. When you shared your snacks. When you remembered me after all those years. I love the way you solve problems. I love your red ears. I love how you pretend to be cold but you're really the warmest person I know. I love you, Kenta Morik."
(She pulls back, tears streaming down her face.)
Sui: (to Yui) "I said it. I actually said it."
Yui: (also crying) "That was beautiful."
Sui: (wiping eyes) "Your turn."
Yui: (nervous) "Okay..."
(She leans close to his other ear.)
Yui: (whispering, soft and sweet) "Kenta-kun... my prince... I love you too. From the sandbox days. When you called me the Brave Queen. When you caught me at the bottom of the slide. When you kissed my cheek at the festival even if you don't remember. I love your genius brain. I love your awkwardness. I love that you always put others before yourself. I love you, Kenta Morik. Forever."
(She pulls back, also crying.)
Sui: (grabbing her hand) "We both said it."
Yui: (squeezing back) "We both love him."
Sui: (looking at Kenta's sleeping face) "What do we do now?"
Yui: "Now? We wait. And hope someday he says it back."
(They lean against each other, still holding hands, watching over him.)

[Scene: Middle of the Night - The Kisses]
(Kenta stirs slightly. Still asleep. His fever dreams make him restless.)
Sui: (noticing) "He's moving around."
Yui: "Bad dreams maybe."
Sui: (gently stroking his hair) "Shh... it's okay... we're here..."
(Kenta calms. His lips part slightly.)
Sui: (staring at his lips) "Yui..."
Yui: (also staring) "I see it too."
Sui: (whispering) "His lips..."
Yui: (whispering back) "I've never..."
Sui: "Me neither."
(They look at each other. Then back at Kenta.)
Sui: "If we're going to confess in secret... maybe we should..."
Yui: (finishing) "Kiss him. While he's asleep."
Sui: (face red) "Is that wrong?"
Yui: (thinking) "He won't know. But we will. We'll always know our first kiss with him was real."
Sui: (nodding slowly) "Okay. You go first."
Yui: "Me?!"
Sui: "I need to... watch. To see how it's done."
Yui: (nervous) "Okay... okay..."
(She leans down. Her lips hover over his. She hesitates.)
Yui: (whispering) "Kenta-kun... forgive me..."
(She presses her lips to his. Soft. Warm. Brief. Two seconds. Maybe three.)
(She pulls back, face completely red, hand over her mouth.)
Yui: (breathing shaky) "I did it. I kissed him."
Sui: (staring) "How was it?"
Yui: (touching her lips) "Soft. Warm. Perfect."
Sui: (taking a deep breath) "My turn."
(She leans down. Looks at his sleeping face. Those lips.)
Sui: (whispering) "Kenta-kun... I'm stealing this..."
(She kisses him. Same spot. Same softness. Same warmth. She lingers just a moment longer than Yui did.)
(She pulls back, also red, also trembling.)
Sui: "We both kissed him."
Yui: "On the lips."
Sui: "Our first kisses."
Yui: "With the same boy."
Sui: (smiling through tears) "The same Kenta-kun."

[Scene: The Private Moments - Sui's Turn]
(They sit in silence for a while, processing what just happened. Kenta sleeps peacefully.)
Sui: (quietly) "Yui... I want more."
Yui: (eyes widening) "More?"
Sui: (face red) "I want him to touch me. Even if he doesn't know."
Yui: (confused) "How?"
Sui: (reaching for Kenta's limp hand) "Like this."
(She takes his hand. Lifts it. Places it on her chest. Over her heart at first. Then higher.)
Sui: (gasping softly) "Oh..."
(His hand rests there. Warm. Heavy. Unmoving.)
Sui: (guiding his fingers) "Kenta-kun... touch me..."
(She presses his hand against her breast. Squeezes gently with his fingers.)
Sui: (moaning quietly) "Oh my god... his hand... on me..."
Yui: (watching, frozen) "Sui..."
Sui: (breathing faster) "It feels so good. His hand. So warm. So big."
(She keeps his hand there for a full minute. Moving it slightly. Pressing harder.)
Sui: (finally releasing) "Okay. I'm done. I'm done."
(She places his hand back at his side, face burning.)
Sui: "I made him touch me. He touched my... you know."
Yui: (swallowing) "Your breast."
Sui: (nodding) "My breast. Kenta-kun touched my breast."

[Scene: The Private Moments - Yui's Turn]
Yui: (determined) "My turn."
(She takes Kenta's other hand. Lifts it. Looks at his sleeping face.)
Yui: (whispering) "Kenta-kun... forgive me..."
(She places his hand on her chest. Over her heart first. Then guides it higher.)
Yui: (shaky breath) "Oh... oh wow..."
(She presses his hand against her breast. Squeezes gently with his fingers.)
Yui: (moaning softly) "His hand... so warm... so big..."
(She moves his hand slightly. Circles. Presses.)
Yui: "Kenta-kun... you're touching me... you're really touching me..."
(She keeps his hand there for a minute. Maybe more. Exploring with his fingers.)
Yui: (finally releasing) "Okay. I'm done."
(She places his hand back at his side, also burning red.)
Yui: "He touched me too."
Sui: (nodding) "We both made him touch us."
Yui: "While he slept."
Sui: "We're terrible people."
Yui: (nodding) "Terrible. But happy."
Sui: "So happy."

[Scene: Together - Both Girls]
(They look at each other. Then at Kenta. Then at each other again.)
Sui: "One more thing."
Yui: "What?"
Sui: "Together. This time."
Yui: (understanding) "Together."
(They lean down at the same time. Sui kisses his left cheek. Yui kisses his right cheek. Both at once.)
Sui: (pulling back) "Perfect."
Yui: (also pulling back) "Now he's really ours."
Sui: (grabbing his hand) "Let's hold him. Both sides."
Yui: (grabbing his other hand) "Until morning."
(They curl up on either side of his bed, holding his hands, watching him sleep.)
Sui: (drifting off) "Kenta-kun..."
Yui: (also drifting) "Sweet dreams..."

[Scene: Morning - Kenta Wakes]
(Kenta's eyes flutter open. The room is bright. His head feels clearer.)
Kenta: (groaning) "What happened..."
(He looks around. Sui and Yui are curled up on either side of his bed, holding his hands, asleep in chairs pulled close.)
Kenta: (staring) "They stayed."
(He remembers fragments. Cold compresses. Soup. Warm hands. Voices whispering. And lips? Something soft on his lips? And his hands? They feel... different. Like they touched something soft. Something warm.)
Kenta: (looking at his hands) (thinking) "Dreams. Just fever dreams. But they felt so real..."
(He flexes his fingers. They remember something. Round. Soft. Warm.)
Kenta: (quietly) "No one's ever done this for me."
(He doesn't pull his hands away. Just watches them sleep.)

[Scene: Morning - They Wake]
Sui: (stirring) "Kenta-kun?"
Yui: (also stirring) "You're awake!"
Kenta: (hoarse) "You stayed. All night."
Sui: (blushing) "Of course we did! You were sick!"
Yui: (also blushing) "Did you think we'd leave?"
Kenta: (quietly) "No one's ever stayed before."
Sui & Yui: (in unison, soft) "We'll always stay."
Kenta: (ears red) "...Thank you."
Sui: (checking his forehead) "Fever broke! You're going to live!"
Yui: (handing him water) "Drink. Slowly."
Kenta: (obeying) "You two are... bossy."
Sui: (grinning) "Someone has to be!"
Yui: (also grinning) "You're hopeless on your own!"
Kenta: (almost smiling) "Maybe."

[Scene: Morning - Getting Ready to Leave]
(They stand at the door.)
Sui: "Kenta-kun... do you remember anything from last night?"
Kenta: (thinking) "Fragments. Voices. Someone said... something. And dreams. Strange dreams."
Yui: (nervous) "Dreams?"
Kenta: "I dreamed someone kissed me. And my hands... they touched something soft. Round. Warm."
Sui: (face exploding red) "D-DREAMS! JUST DREAMS!"
Yui: (also red) "FEVER DREAMS! VERY COMMON!"
Kenta: (looking at them) "You're both very red."
Sui: "IT'S WARM IN HERE!"
Yui: "YOUR HEATER!"
Kenta: "I don't have a heater."
Sui: "WELLâBODY HEAT! FROM CARING FOR YOU!"
Kenta: (almost smiling) "Sure."
Sui: (kissing his cheek quickly) "Get better!"
Yui: (kissing his other cheek) "Rest well!"
(They run off before he can respond.)
Kenta: (standing there, touching his cheeks, then his lips, then looking at his hands) (thinking) "Dreams. Just dreams."
(But his lips remember something soft. And his hands remember something round and warm.)

[Scene: Kenta's Room - Night]
(He lies in bed. Still weak but recovering. His phone buzzes. Two messages.)
Sui: "Kenta-kun! So glad you're feeling better! Don't ever scare us like that again! Sleep well and dream of... whatever! "
Yui: "My prince~ you gave us a heart attack! But we loved taking care of you! Get strong again soon! Goodnight!"
Kenta: (smiling) (typing back to both): "Goodnight. Thank you for staying. For everything. I don't remember much, but I remember being warm. Safe. Thank you."
(Immediate replies:)
Sui: "HE REMEMBERS BEING WARM! "
Yui: "HE FELT SAFE WITH US! PROGRESS! "
Sui: "SWEET DREAMS OUR SICK GENIUS!"
Yui: "GET BETTER SOON! "
Kenta: (putting down the phone) (looking at his hands again)
Kenta: (thinking) "There was something. Multiple something. Lips on mine. My hands on something soft. Round. Warm."
(He flexes his fingers. The memory lingers.)
Kenta: "Fever dreams. Nothing more."
(But his cheeks are red. And he's smiling.)
