Chapter 2 - This is Overwhelming

"Vampires, shouldn't they be up in flames by now?" Nathan asked confidently.

"The media exaggerated their weakness to the sun. Being in the sun takes a toll on them but they don't burn up like in the movies," Felix explained.

"Wait, you are familiar with Vampires?" Nathan turned towards him.

"I will explain. Here is not the time or place to do so," Felix said not taking his eye off Anatoly.

"Sorry, but we have to leave," Anatoly said and he and the other vampires dispersed.

Minutes later, the vampires were nowhere in sight. The compulsion that was cast on people around started to fade. People looked around, confused. Then slowly they walked away. Others continued activities they were in the middle of before they were compelled.

"Come with me," Felix said as he walked away.

He walked into a diner and Nathan followed him.

"I did a few jobs for your father and he hired me to protect you," Felix clarified as he took a seat at a booth.

"So we are not really friends? My best friend was paid to be my friend," Nathan bowed his head.

A waiter walked over to them and handed them menus.

"It's not like that, he did not pay me to be your friend. I chose to be your friend,"

"Did you take the money?" Nathan asked but Felix did not answer.

"Of course, you are just like everyone else," Nathan was about to walk away when Felix grabbed him.

"I was happy to do it. I won't have agreed to do it if it were anyone else," Felix's explanation angered Nathan.

He snatched his hand and walked out of the diner. Felix went after him. The waiter watched them leave.

"I did not want you to be dragged into our world. I guess we failed," Felix tried to explain as he chased him down the road.

"Our, we, who are you talking about?"

"Your father wanted to keep you safe," Felix blurted out.

"I should have been given a choice," Nathan suddenly stopped and yelled at Felix.

A vehicle then pulled over to the side of the road. A man in a suit walked out of the driver's seat and opened the door for Nathan.

'Mark,' Nathan thought the moment he saw the driver. Without thinking twice he got in. Mark held the door open as he waited for Felix to get in.

"He is not coming with us," Nathan said just as Felix was about to enter. He stepped back and let Mark close the door.

Mark got in the driver's seat and they sped off. They were on the road and suddenly Mark took a left turn.

Nathan's heart knocked against his chest.

"The airport is the other way," Nathan said as he looked around for an exit.

"Calm down, I'm taking you to get your tattoo," Mark's deep voice filled the car.

Nathan was not in a trusting mood. His driver he hired for his trip around the country had let Anatoly ambush him.

He decided to indulge him.

"Tattoo? What for?" Nathan was genuinely curious.

Mark pulled down his sleeve and showed Nathan a tattoo.

"It is an anti-possession tattoo," Mark explained.

"Possession, like demonic possession?" Nathan tried to look at him in the rearview mirror. Mark nodded.

Nathan had not finished processing the sudden death of his father, or the fact that vampires are real.

He started to hyperventilate.

"Nathan are you okay," Mark asked as he pulled over.
