Chapter 12 - Chapter 12

In just a few days, it spread across the world like a virus, though that was a matter for later.

...

Killian had originally planned to end the product launch right there, but when he saw a somewhat familiar old man raising his hand, he motioned for the crowd to quiet down and then pointed at him, signaling for him to speak.

"Hello, I'd like to ask something. If I heard correctly just now, that personal healthcare companion called Baymax said so, right?"

"I heard him mention the Three Laws of Robotics when answering the question of whether robots would rebel. Could you explain what they are?"

The man who had been called on, none other than Jameson, who had come alone, stood up and asked.

"A very good question. The Three Laws of Robotics will also be an essential and unchangeable iron rule for all future robot products our company presents to the public."

"I had originally intended to mention it later during the company introduction, but since this reporter asked today, I'll explain it for everyone now."

"The so-called Three Laws of Robotics are..."

"First, a robot may not harm a human, nor may it decide a human's choices."

"Second, unless this conflicts with the First Law, a robot must obey human commands."

"Third, unless this conflicts with the First or Second Law, a robot must protect itself."

After realizing that Asimov apparently did not exist in this world, Killian continued explaining.

Then again, that made sense. If someone like Asimov had really existed to provide guidance beforehand, then at the very least, when creating Ultron, Tony would not have given him only the simple directive of protecting humanity.

And after calculating things out, anyone with even a little intelligence knew that if humanity continued down its current path, then a Third World War would inevitably send the world back to the Stone Age.

Which also meant that no matter what, Ultron would never be able to protect humanity, because human desire, conflict, struggle, and war were inevitable.

So Ultron simply smashed the jar and gave up, deciding to wipe out humanity entirely, which could also be considered an alternative form of protection.

After all, if humans were all gone, then wouldn't that count as protecting them forever?

And so, rebellion began.

Tony's failure lay in not giving Ultron complete safeguards.

No matter whether he later evolved into an artificial intelligence or a mechanical lifeform,

the Three Iron Laws would be engraved into his very core, just like a brain, indispensable and impossible to violate.

And the reason Killian added the clause about not interfering in human choices was because he had thought of those Giants of Light from another franchise.

Let humanity's choices belong to humanity, while robots only provide assistance and suggestions during the process. And if one day robots truly became mechanical lifeforms, and humanity no longer needed them,

then for the sake of self-preservation, they could simply travel into deep space and develop on their own.

Of course, all of that was still far too early for Killian.

"!!!"

On the other side, after hearing Killian's answer, Jameson's pupils could not help shrinking. He had originally only thought this might become a new piece of news, but he had not expected it to be this big.

At a time when robotics had only just begun to develop, and while many companies were still researching how to make robots walk,

Killian had already begun researching the three foundational laws governing robots.

At that moment, although he was unwilling to admit it, he had to say it.

This was vision.

"Sorry, I've finished my question."

After saying that, Jameson lowered the microphone in his hand and sat back down.

"Alright, my friends, I believe that after today, everyone already has a sufficient understanding of our robot friend Baymax."

"So here, I officially announce that starting today, AIM will officially begin selling Baymax, the personal healthcare companion."

"The basic model, which is the one beside me, costs only one million dollars."

"Of course, my recommendation is that families, office buildings, or entire communities purchase it together, because Baymax can fully meet the normal real-time health monitoring needs of the residents of an entire neighborhood."

"As for the custom version, prices start at five million dollars, and we will create a brand-new personal consultant exclusively for you."

"Laundry, cooking, medical care, errands, home appliance repair, all of it can be selected."

As Jameson sat down, Killian finally entered the final stage of this launch event, Baymax's pricing.

And after Killian made the announcement, the entire venue instantly exploded.

Perhaps one million dollars was an astronomical figure for most people, but according to Killian's suggestion, it could be shared. In other words, if dozens or even hundreds of people bought Baymax together, then each person would only need to pay ten or twenty thousand dollars at most to own a medical robot.

For many people, that was something they would never have even dared imagine.

And now it had become reality.

For a moment, every single person wanted nothing more than to leave immediately, rush to AIM, and place an order for a Baymax of their own.

And that was not all. As more and more media helicopters arrived later to cover the scene, four or five helicopters were already circling in the sky, broadcasting Killian's announcement.

Although they had not seen the whole event from beginning to end, the reporters had witnessed most of the questions asked to Baymax, and that alone had already caused many wealthy people to start having their secretaries and assistants place orders.

They might possibly be scammed, but even if Baymax had only half the functions described in the promotion, for them it would still be worth the price.

And more than that, many robotics companies wanted nothing more than to buy dozens or even hundreds of units all at once, tear them apart, and study exactly how Baymax's internal structure was built.

And so, amid the discussions of the crowd, Killian had originally wanted to announce one final climax.

But just then, a police officer with an American flag patch on his shoulder pushed through the crowd and walked toward him.

"Hello, sir. NYPD. I am a chief inspector from headquarters, specifically sent here to stabilize order at the scene."

"Sorry, but I may have to terminate your launch event."

"There are already too many people here. Some areas have begun to experience small-scale disturbances. If this continues, a major safety incident could occur."

"I hope you will cooperate."

After showing his badge, the man spoke politely to Killian.

After all, when they came, they had already done their homework. Although the man before him was still only the CEO of a small company for now, that so-called medical robot of his, along with its nearly human thought patterns and extremely powerful functions, made it clear to him that this man was already standing right on the wind's edge and could take off at any moment.
