Ashes of the Silent War: Shadow of the Leviathans
Chapter 9 – Titans of the Abyss
The industrial city of Korrath was under siege. Smoke and fire blanketed the skyline as power plants exploded one by one.
From above, the Leviathan Hunters' dropships descended like harbingers of humanity's last hope.
Inside the lead dropship, Kael Varden stood beside Captain Seren Vale and Lyra.
"Remember," Kael said, voice low but steady, "we hit the fractures in the chest core. Focus fire, and coordinate with the Hunters. We can take this Leviathan down—if we work together."
Seren's eyes were hard. "Understood, Commander. Let's bring it down."
First Contact
The Hunters landed in the central plaza of Korrath. The Leviathan they faced was massive—even larger than Abyss Alpha—and radiated dark energy that distorted the air around it.
Kael raised his rifle. "Here it comes."
The ground trembled as the creature approached, crushing buildings beneath its clawed feet.
Lyra activated her sniper drone. "Kael… its chest core is heavily shielded. But there are pressure fractures near the shoulder and the spine. Hit those first."
The Leviathan roared and swung a claw, demolishing a city block. The Hunters scattered into strategic positions, firing energy rounds and explosive shells at the creature.
The monster adapted quickly, slashing missiles out of the air with precision.
Kael gritted his teeth. "It's learning… fast."
Kael Joins the Fight
A sudden beam of blue energy fired from the Leviathan's chest core, vaporizing several Hunters near the front line.
Kael leapt from cover and activated his experimental exosuit. Its reinforced armor glowed with plasma channels as he charged the Leviathan.
"Move to the fractures!" he shouted over the comms.
The Leviathan noticed him immediately. Its glowing eyes locked onto Kael as it stomped toward him. Ice, concrete, and metal flew in every direction.
Kael dodged a massive claw and rolled behind a collapsed factory wall. He fired a burst of plasma rounds into a fracture along the creature's spine. Sparks flew. The monster roared, thrashing violently.
Lyra's sniper round followed, striking the shoulder fracture. Energy burst from the wound, causing the Leviathan to stumble backward.
Seren shouted, "Now! Focus everything on the chest core!"
Missiles, rail guns, and plasma lances struck simultaneously. The Leviathan staggered, energy arcs crackling across its armor.
It fell to one knee. Kael raised his rifle for the finishing shot—but the ground shook violently beneath them.
Colossus Arrives
Far to the south, the ocean split. A shadow rose from the depths. The Abyss Titan – Colossus emerged, dwarfing the city skyline.
Ships were crushed instantly beneath its feet as it stepped onto land. The Hunters' communication network buzzed with panic.
Kael's voice cut through: "Fall back! Colossus is moving toward the capital!"
Lyra's voice trembled, "We can't stop it… not with this many Leviathans on the move."
From the Architect fortress, Adrian Voss watched the battle unfold on his screens.
"The world sees only the first wave," he said, calm and collected.
One of his officers frowned. "Sir… the Leviathan Hunters could intercept the smaller ones. Won't they stop our plan?"
Voss shook his head. "No. Humanity must survive long enough to witness the true purpose of the Abyss Titans."
He gestured toward a holographic projection showing the continents. Red markers blinked violently.
"These Titans… are not merely weapons. They are instruments of evolution. Humanity's current form is inadequate. The Abyss is the crucible. Through destruction, we will forge the next step."
The Terrifying Realization
Kael watched Colossus through his HUD. The Titan moved with terrifying intelligence, avoiding obstacles, prioritizing destruction of strategic infrastructure.
Lyra's voice broke over the comm. "Kael… Voss isn't just trying to kill us. He's trying to rebuild the planet his way. Everything—cities, nations, people—they're all expendable."
Kael clenched his fists. "Then we stop him. No matter the cost."
Behind them, the Leviathan they had been fighting recovered from the Hunters' assault. Its massive tail smashed a building, scattering soldiers.
Kael turned to his team. "Leviathan Hunters… it's time we earn that name. Move out!"
Missiles fired, rail cannons cracked, and plasma blades slashed as humanity's first organized strike against the Abyss Titans began.
But across the oceans, Colossus continued its march. Each step it took threatened millions of lives.
And in the shadows, Adrian Voss smiled.
"Let the war truly begin."
