Driving down the road Silas thought about the afternoon he had spent with the Cullens.
The hospitality was nice, the food was amazing… and Alice. Silas felt confused.
He knew Alice liked him, otherwise why would she be so persistent? Now with this visit to the Cullens he was even more certain.
But… how did he feel? Did he like her? Of course he did. But did he love her? That he didn't know.
Also, one thing that worried him. His good treatment was all because they thought he was human.
But what if they knew what… or how strong he truly was? Would they still treat him well?
Or would they fear him?
Silas was conflicted. If he revealed his strength to Alice, would she still like him… or would she fear him?
Everything about their relationship was built on lies, and it was on both sides.
Silas was so bothered by these thoughts that he just noticed he had arrived at home.
Sigh.
Let's continue to think about this later.
Silas got out of the car and headed inside.
…
Forks.
Cullen house.
Esme walked upstairs and soon they arrived at Alice's room.
"What did you want to talk about?" Alice asked, confused.
Esme turned around with a smile.
"Friends?" Esme let out a chuckle.
Alice looked confused.
"What?"
Esme calmed down.
"You and Silas, are you truly friends?"
Alice didn't understand. Of course they were.
"Let me clarify. Are you truly just friends?"
Alice just stood there looking at Esme. Her mind was moving at incredible speeds processing the past few weeks.
It seems… not, but also yes.
Alice was confused.
Esme saw her expression and sighed.
"Let me phrase it another way."
"Do you like Silas more than as a friend? Do you want to be more?"
Alice lowered her head, she didn't know, she knew she had never felt this way before.
She thought they were just good friends… but when she thinks back on her actions, she knew she was naive.
Esme didn't get an answer and was annoyed. Let me hear the spice!
"How do you feel right now!? When you think about him, what do you feel?"
Alice thought of Silas, or more precise, did she ever stop? She brought him to the front of her mind.
Alice furrowed her brows. The inside of her chest felt heavy, like a rock was placed right behind her sternum.
She… missed him. He had been gone for less than ten minutes, but she already missed him.
"I miss him." Alice said. "I feel sad that he isn't here, and it feels like a rock in my chest."
Esme was on clouds. Yes this was the high of behind right, what lousy reality dramas can compare to this?
The excitement and happiness she felt for her daughter, all the spicy detail she will be given so she can "help".
Hehe.
Wait! No! Why do I feel like a villain? Esme was confused, I just want to help, okay?
She looked at Alice who was staring at the ground looking like a lost puppy.
Esme felt pity.
"Now you know. The next step is to act on this. What do you want to do?"
Alice was confused. What did she want to do?
She wanted to break into his house and watch him sleep. No! She can't say that.
Esme looked at her daughter who had gone off trails again.
Let's give some help.
"You want to be with him, no?"
Alice snapped out of her daze and nodded.
"I want to."
Esme nodded. That's right.
"Then you have to make that happen."
Alice looked at Esme.
"But how?"
Esme nodded calmly like she was about to give some good advice… but on the inside she wasn't calm.
How would I know!? You are the ones all lovey dovey.
"Maybe you could ask to hang out, just the two of you?"
Alice's eyes lit up. Great idea. Alice cursed herself, get your head in the game.
"That's a great idea." Alice said.
But just then Alice lowered her head. I won't see him until Monday…
Her new realization had made her understand just how slow time truly moved.
Esme shook her head. She understood her daughter's thoughts. She's been there.
"Weren't you supposed to call him when he got home?"
Alice looked up. Right!
"Yeah." Alice walked to her bedside and grabbed her phone.
Esme saw this and nodded.
"I will leave then."
Alice nodded as she looked at her phone.
"Yeah… see you."
Esme rolled her eyes. Forgotten already?
Alice quickly called Silas. She laid there on the bed and listened to the ring tone. The time between every beep felt like an eternity.
Just then.
"Hello, Alice? Are you there?" It was Silas. He had just laid down on his bed and was about to sleep when he heard his phone start buzzing.
Alice quickly locked in.
"Yeah, did you get home alright?"
Silas smiled.
"Yeah, I was just about to sleep."
Alice smiled. She could imagine him laying on his bed tucked in, ready to sleep.
She had a soft smile on her face.
"Alice?"
"Yeah, sorry, just lost in thought."
"I wanted to ask you something?"
Silas looked up at the roof.
"Sure, what's up?"
Alice gathered her courage.
"You said we lived on the way to you, right?"
"Yeah, how so?" Silas asked, confused.
Alice had a plan. The one closest to the lake catches the moon first. As they say.
"Then could you pick me up on school mornings?"
Silas was confused.
"Don't you ride with your siblings?"
"Well I did before, but we all don't fit in one car, but if we were one less we would."
"Drive economically, you know? So if you could pick me up on the way."
Silas smiled. This was pure bullshit being shoved down his throat.
Silas hesitated for a second then said.
"You just want to ride with me, don't you?"
The conversation went silent.
Alice on the other side was shocked. Her plan was flawless, how had it been seen through?
But she saw an opportunity.
"Yes."
Silas chuckled.
"You could've just said so."
Alice smiled wryly. How would I know?
But Alice wasn't done.
"Now that we are talking, I was planning on going to Port Angeles on Wednesday. Would you like to come along? Just the two of us?"
Silas went silent. Did he? He looked over at his wardrobe. I might need some new clothes.
"Sure, I needed new clothes anyway." As for the last remark she made, he tactfully ignored it. They both knew what this was.
Alice on the other end smiled.
"Alright, I will help you pick out the best."
Silas smiled. At least someone will.
"I look forward to it. But now I gotta sleep, see you on Monday, be ready when I come and pick you up."
Alice nodded even though Silas couldn't see her.
"Yeah, don't worry. And good night."
They hung up.
Silas threw his phone on the nightstand. Hard choices.
Silas turned over and closed his eyes. That's for another day, now is time to sleep.
...
Thanks for all the support :) Enjoy, mwah~
