POV: Scarlett Mitchell
The knock on Elle's apartment door comes at 8 PM on a Tuesday.
Scarlett hasn't answered the door in three days.
She's been sitting in Elle's spare bedroom with the curtains drawn and her phone on silent. Not because she's depressed. Because she's trying to disappear. If she doesn't talk to anyone, they can't tell her to choose. They can't ask her to decide between her father and Cameron. They can't make her break something that's already breaking.
Elle yells from the kitchen that it's James.
Scarlett doesn't move.
James is Cameron's oldest friend. James is the person who probably told him to do everything wrong. James is the last person she wants to see because seeing him means being pulled back into a world she's trying to leave.
But then James opens the bedroom door anyway.
