ADRIAN'S POV
Adrian's office is dark except for the desk lamp. It's 11:17 PM. He's been here for sixteen hours.
He tells himself he's working. Looking at contracts. Reviewing investments. Making decisions that will make his company another ten million dollars richer. But the truth is he's just moving words around on a screen, pretending his brain is anywhere except three doors down the hall from Olivia Chen.
The office is quiet. The building is mostly empty. Just cleaning staff on the lower floors and Adrian sitting in his leather chair, staring at nothing.
Marcus had said something earlier. "You're distracted," his assistant had mentioned while handing him coffee. Adrian had denied it immediately. "I'm fine." But the words came out wrong. Too defensive. Too quick. Marcus knows him well enough to know when he's lying.
Adrian is not fine.
