Chapter 25 - Corrupted Volkov

In front of Seraphiel and Calux, stood a massive beast of over twenty feet long and over twelve feet tall that had just spoken to them and had gotten up.

Its massive jaw dripping a type of saliva that seemed corrosive was menacingly showing a type of annoyed grin.

Red eyes like ruby, two tails, one with a grey tip and another with a deep crimson red tip swayed behind the beast.

Massive paws, with claws that looked like sharpened swords.

A beast of nightmare for a regular team of awakeners coming into this rift.

Calux suspected that this beast was close to B rank considering the amount of mana it exuded.

The saliva dripping from the mouth looked like acid in the ground after it fell.

"Seraphiel, be on guard and summon two crossbowman instead of one, and one shield bearer, I'll take the brunt of this offensive.."

"This beast is abnormal, and I'm almost certain it has an acid or corrosive type skill, I can void step at any time, but you cannot."

Seraphiel processed his words, and was honestly amazed.

Who has more minds me or you?!

"Sounds good to me, I'm not entirely proficient with a bow, but it seems it is the best weapon for me at the moment, I'll be sure to improve it when we go back."

Calux nodded approvingly.

"I'll be going first!"

Calux void stepped in front of the beast and tried to void slash one of its paws but was surprised at how agile the beast was.

Volkov, stepped back with a jump that earned him six to seven feet of distance from Calux and landed not only backward but also not in the same place, and the attack completely missed the mark.

"Hm, it seems the intelligence and instinct this beast has is fairly high."

"I can see why you are an elite boss Volkov."

Suddenly, Calux's eyes glowed purple, and his aura changed to a more bloodthirsty aura.

Seraphiel couldn't see the changes in his eyes, but she felt the oppressive feeling of Calux's aura seeping out of his body.

Wow, this is his aura using his element, it feels intimidating, but also... I'm not afraid of it. It's weird..

While Calux started attacking and actually dealing damage with his sword skills, Seraphiel controlled her shield bearer and crossbowmen to attack the beast, but it was extremely fast and durable.

The truth was that the arrows were doing minimal damage and they weren't penetrating the hide.

ROARRRR.

The beast suddenly roared and looked at Seraphiel's way angrily.

"Annoying... "

"Die.. Human"

Volkov jumped forward avoiding Calux and in Seraphiel's direction and suddenly a blast of green breath was sent from its mouth.

Thankfully Seraphiel's five minds were working over time in the battlefield, and she commanded her shield bearer to take the attack.

To both her and Calux's surprise, the construct started melting away.

Wow, the breath is strong enough to actually melt one of my constructs huh.

Taking another chunk of mana, she created another shield bearer, but her mana was close to two thirds empty now.

Loosing a construct also meant she lost a chunk of her mana as if it was sucked away by the void when the construct was destroyed.

Before the beast could attack again, Calux appeared by its hind legs and slashed one of the tendons of the beast.

Awooooooo.

The beast seemed to scream in pain.

It turned around and looked at Calux menacingly, and for the first time since they were opposing each other, Seraphiel could see the bloodthirsty look that Calux was portraying.

It seems that like his mother, he is also a battle maniac.

*Sigh.*

She was well aware after training with his mother for two months that she enjoyed battle and anything related to battle.

When she found a situation during battle amusing, it was as if an instinct took over.

She could definitely see Calux's expression aligning with that of his mother's.

She thought about creating a stronger and bigger construct, a type of ballista, perhaps even as a D rank construct, because of the size of the arrow it will pierce it and make it mad she thought.

Yeah, this may work.

"Hey little beast, did that hurt?"

"Eyes on me."

Calux taunted.

Awooooo.

Volkov jumped towards Calux even if he had one of its four legs partially incapacitated it could still kill these humans, thats what Volkov was thinking.

But it would have never thought that it would loose it's front paw just when he was about to slash.

"Spatial Banishment."

An invisible space appeared around the right wolf paw that was about to strike Calux, and the beast felt as if it had gone numb.

Suddenly, a chunk of about one fourth of its leg disappeared into nothingness, no blood spilled at first, but after the purple energy left its body blood started rushing out.

"Hmm, so that's how it works on beasts that bleed huh.."

Calux looked at the beast with amused eyes.

ROARRRRRR.

"DIE."

Calux void stepped away from the beast before it could launch another breath.

"Try now Seraphiel, he is unbalanced and can't flash away with its speed like before!"

Suddenly, the beast felt a chill, but before it was too late, and ballista bolt measuring four feet impaled his side, and this time it definitely penetrated the hide.

It was not lethal, far from it, but with an elite boss, unless you were completely overwhelming with power, it was not possible to one shot the beast.

"Hahahaha! Well done!"

"It was a nice fight Volkov, but unfortunately for you, this is where it ends."

Calux void stepped in front of the beast, the last thing it saw before eternal darkness, was a purple slash by the side of its head, that separated his head from the body.

"Void Slash."

After two seconds, blood gushed out of the body of the beast.

"Few, that was fun but terrifying!"

"I would have never thought that this beast would actually have such a powerful breath skill!"

Calux said excitingly.

The beast corpse suddenly dissipated into light, and two items remained in the blood stained floor.

A blue core about the size of a fist, which was bigger in comparison to regular beasts that dropped green cores the size of a finger lay on the floor next to a skill book.

"Wow, we got a skill book on our first rift? That's insane.."

Seraphiel murmured in amazement.

Calux nodded in approval, one had to know that the odds of a boss dropping a skill book was less than 10%, it completely depended on the type of boss monster that was killed, the energy the monster contained, and the place where the rift was located in.

Then the Apex Network would use that energy to try and provide skill books based on the participants of the raid, so it was fair for the awakeners.

Calux walked to the blood pool, picked it up, and when he scanned the book, he had a big smile on his face.

"Seems like it's your lucky day Seraphiel."
